Contract

Below is a sample of my contract. I will fill in the blanks and email your contract to you once you are ready to purchase a puppy.

 This agreement is entered into by Abigailsdream Shelties/Janet Crawford, hereinafter known as the "Breeder" and the undersigned as "Buyer". 
 It is understood at the time of sale that this dog is a good representative of its breed and is suited as a companion animal. Your puppy has been seen by my vet at the time of dew claw removal and also for a  very thorough examination, literally from head to tail at the time of the six week vaccinations. Your puppy is guaranteed until it’s first birthday against hereditary defects.

The buyer agrees to take ownership seriously and responsibly. Buyer understands that this puppy is on a vaccination schedule of 6, 10 & 14 weeks for  puppy shots and will need a rabies shot, at age recommended by your vet.  A stool check is also advised at routine visits. Buyer agrees to provide health care as designated by his/her veterinarian. Puppy has been wormed routinely starting at approximately 3 weeks of age.  You are receiving a record with these dates recorded.

The buyer agrees to feed this puppy a quality food and to provide clean drinking water at all times. Your puppy is currently eating Diamond dry puppy food. Any puppy sold by Abigailsdream Shelties is preferably sold to be a lifetime member of your family. The more attention they receive, the better the relationship between Buyer and puppy.  Dog obedience classes are recommended both for the socialization and the behavior of your puppy. This is also a fantastic way to bond with your new puppy - they have to know you are the pack leader and they have to obey you! 

This puppy is expected to take a few days up to to two weeks, depending on age and temperament, before it becomes familiar with it's new people/environment. It is perfectly normal if the puppy chooses not to be sociable for a few days. Breeder is not responsible for ANY vet bills or travel expenses or any other charges incurred after the sale of the puppy. 

 Breeder will be available for the lifetime of the puppy for any questions regarding puppy and welcomes/encourages updates and pictures of puppy from Buyer.
This contract does not cover: Eye problems, skin problems, coccidia, giardia, worms or ANY parasite, temperament (since temperament is almost always due to the environment), parvo, coronavirus, distemper, or any other contagious disease/infections, luxating pattelas, hernias or undescended testicles. Size is not guaranteed! Show quality is not quaranteed.  Being suitable for breeding purposes is also not guaranteed.


Abigailsdream Shelties gives no cash refunds. Puppies are priced as a combination of age, sex, color, pedigree, show quality, pet quality, etc. In the event of a hereditary defect (I will request a written statement from two Veternarians in separate practices and I also reserve the right to have the puppy examined by my veternarian), a replacement puppy of equal value will be given in exchange for said puppy. Seller is not responsible for any shipping or transportation expenses in regards to a replacement puppy.  Buyer agrees to make sure they (nor any family member or room mate) are not allergic to dogs before Sale. Buyer also must make sure that the Landlord agrees that the pet can be housed on rental property.  Buyer acknowledges that if buyer proceeds with medical treatment from his/her veterinarian, instead of immediately returning the puppy to the seller, then this guarantee is null and void. Seller does not pay nor reimburse any vet and/or travel expenses whatsoever.   If you are unable to keep your sheltie and are not successful at locating a suitable home, your sheltie is always welcome to come back to us. I would also be happy to help you find a new home if its not feasible to return the dog back to me.  Unless its someone you know, its better to ask an adoption fee than to offer your dog for free because Free pets have no value and then your sheltie may end up in a terrible situation.  I would never want any of my babies to end up in a dog pound or shelter.  "The terms of this agreement shall be construed in accord with the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and any dispute shall be resolved in the Logan County Circuit Court.   The parties agree that, in the event of any dispute concerning the subject and terms of this agreement, the non-prevailing party shall pay the prevailing party its costs and attorney fees incurred.  In the event any provision herein shall be found to be unenforceable or contrary to applicable law, the parties hereto agree that the balance of this agreement shall remain in full force and effect and the terms(s) in question substituted with such term or terms as are legal and in keeping with the intent of this agreement.  Any agreement reached for the purchase of a canine shall be binding upon the successors and agents of the parties."
